University of Scouting : March 3, 2012 2012 University of ScoutingWhat is University of Scouting? It is a one day supplemental training for all volunteers. You'll learn of lot of "How-Tos" ... practical tips for running a scouting activity. It's not your usual class ... because you'll be spending time with volunteers who've "been there and done that" plus you'll find that there's a lot of other Scouters who have the same questions or are seeking solutions as you. It's worth it! What will I do at the University of Scouting? You will take specialized classes towards earning a Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate Degree from the School of Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting or Venturing. For more information click HERE!
YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING Requirement
Effective June 1, 2010 (Source: http://www.scouting.org/Training/YouthProtection.aspx) Youth Protection Training is required for ALL BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their positions.
• Charter Representatives and Committee Members now must take the training. • Institution Heads are still exempt as they are not required to register with BSA New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training BEFORE submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins. Training may take place at the unit level in the form of a class or may be completed individually using the BSA's online training. Online Youth Protection training: go to www.myscouting.org Click on the CREATE AN ACCOUNT. Follow the instructions to set up an account.
Here is what you should see once the account is created: Youth Protection Training Notice
You do not have to be a registered member or have a member ID to take Youth Protection training. To take Youth Protection training:
Remember to Print the Certificate prior to leaving the training web site. A copy of the certificate must accompany all new applications for registration. When the new volunteers receive their BSA membership cards, they should go back to web and add their number information to their profile. I’m told that this step will make all future online training automatically stored in the BSA database. Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If the volunteer’s Youth Protection is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered. |
