Unit Commissioner Charter Presentations
HOW TO MAKE A CHARTER PRESENTATION
1. When the charter comes in, call the unit leader and ask when the charter should be presented. Suggest
that they should invite someone from the Charter Organization to be present (probably the Chartered
Partner).
If it is going to be more than just a few weeks, make certain that the unit leader is given the membership
cards to hand out immediately.
2. Read the presentation information in your Commissioner's Book.
3. Organized your notes and create your own presentation ceremony or use the one out of the Unit
Commissioner's Book.
4. When you get to the meeting, make certain that the appropriate people know that you are there.
Sample Ceremony
A. Introduce yourself.
B. What is a Charter?
C. Starting with the youth - because they are the most important members...have them say their promise
and add that they will participate in the Scouting program to the best of their abilities to the end of their
promise. Have them repeat after you.
Have unit leaders/members of the committee stand and repeat after you:
“I, (state your name), promise to do my best in everything I do and do my best to live by the Cub
(Boy) Scout Promise and Law because as an adult leader, I am a role model for the Scouts that I
work with.”
“I promise to help pack (troop) (state unit number) put on the best program that we can possibly
have using all the resources available.”
“I promise to get all appropriate training so that the boys in our unit will grow and advance and so
that we are following the rules and procedures of the Boy Scouts of America.”
“I promise to participate in district and council activities and to keep our unit very aware of
important information and better our unit.”
Have all parents stand and repeat after you:
“I, (state your name), promise to do my best to support pack (troop) (state unit number) and the
program that they organize to the best of my ability, this includes regular activities, special
activities, service projects, and fund-raising.”
“I promise to support my son and encourage him in the Scouting program by helping him to attend
meetings and activities.”
“I promise to encourage him to advance and to earn his rank not for the sake of collecting badges,
but to learn new and exciting things.”
Present the charter to unit leaders and Charter Partner. Thank everyone and melt into the background.
