[Welcome to the National OA Web Site]
"The Order of the Arrow is a thing of the outdoors rather than the indoors... It needs the sun and rain, the woods and the plains, the waters and the starlit sky."
                 E. Urner Goodman

Purpose:

  • To recognize those campers – Scouts and Scouters – who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and by such recognition cause other campers to conduct themselves in such manner as to warrant recognition.

  • To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit.

  • To promote Scout camping, which reaches its greatest effectiveness as a part of the unit’s camping program, both year-round and in the summer camp, as directed by the camping committee of the council.

  • To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others

....from the Order of the Arrow Handbook.

The OA's Role in District Units' Crossover Ceremonies

  • The District Committe's Policy: The committee supports the local Chapter's many service commitments by estabilsihing a single district-wide crossover ceremony. This is necessary because of the limited supply of youth members to staff the ceremony team. Individual units should not make additional requests for crossover support.

    • The national BSA web site does mention the "possibility" of having the OA perform a crossover ceremony, but in our area we simply have more packs than youth performers. Those same national site pages note that conducting a crossover ceremony at the Blue and Gold banquet is the pack's responsibility in conjuction with the troops the Webelos will be joining.

    • Even if Webelos have gone through a pack's ceremony prior to the Spring District event, they can come back and participate in the formal ceremony.

    • Please remember that the OA youth are also students whose school year testing falls in the crossover season.

Here's a web site designed specifically for you – a new member of the Order of the Arrow. We’d like you to get off to a good start, so we’ve gathered the information you’ll need to be successful and put it online – where it’s easy for you to access.
